Course overview

The HSI Advanced First Aid course is designed for personnel who need more first aid training than Basic First Aid, but not to the level of Emergency Medical Response. Perfect for emergency response teams, this 17-21 hour Advanced First Aid certification course presents many of the most common illnesses and injuries responders are likely to encounter.

Beach Teach - Day 4: In-Person Training

Day 4: Advanced Equipment & Environmental Response

This session builds on the physical and mental challenges of surf rescue. Trainees will work with paddleboards, rescue lines, and UTV support while navigating complex scenarios like choppy water, rip currents, and hazardous marine life. Emphasis will also be placed on lifeguard judgment, documentation, communication with agencies, and upholding professional conduct on and off duty.

Beach Teach - Day 3: In-Person Training

Day 3: Victim Recognition & Basic Rescue

Day 3 is all about developing instinct. Trainees will learn how to recognize the signs of distress and drowning, communicate effectively by radio and whistle, and execute entry-level rescue techniques. Hands-on drills will cover water entries, approaches, victim contact, and transport. By the end of the day, guards will be trained in the rescue fundamentals that define professional readiness.

Day 2: Station Operations & Preventative Lifeguarding

Our first in-person session focuses on the foundations of lifeguarding: station setup, equipment layout, swim zone management, and proactive patron safety. Trainees will review daily responsibilities, tower positioning, and early hazard recognition strategies such as dynamic flag usage and walking torp techniques. This is the day where rookies begin learning how to think and act like professional surf lifeguards.
