To qualify for this abbreviated review course, your current American Red Cross certification must meet strict criteria.

  • The 30-Day Rule: Your certification must be current OR expired by no more than 30 days as of the date of this course.

  • Important: If your expiration date is 31+ days in the past as of this course date, ARC policy strictly prohibits you from taking this course. You must register for a full initial certification class.

Physical Prerequisites

You must pass these skills to continue the course.

  • Swim-Tread-Swim: 50-yard swim → 2-minute tread or float → 50-yard swim.

  • Timed Object Retrieval (50 Seconds): Swim 20 yards, submerge 4–5 feet to retrieve a 10lb object, return 20 yards on your back holding the object with both hands, and exit without a ladder.

What to Bring to Class

Please arrive early and ready to get in the water.

  • Proof of Online Completion: Printed or digital proof that you completed the ARC online modules.

  • Swimwear: An athletic bathing suit.

  • Goggles: Permitted only for the swim prerequisite. They are strictly prohibited during the timed 10lb object retrieval.

  • Essentials: Towel, dry clothes, water bottle, and snacks (the in-water drills are physically demanding!).
