COMMON QUESTIONS:
Q: Where are the A.L.A beaches and pools?
A: We have 3 areas called “sectors”- Long Branch, Mantoloking, and Seaside. In each of these 3 sectors there are multiple connected beaches, as well as beach club pools in Long Branch. You choose which sectors you’d like to work in!
Q: What are the age requirements?
A: 15 years old for pool shifts, 16 years old for beach shifts.
Q: When does the season start and end?
A: Limited weekend shifts start as early as Memorial Day weekend, and full time positions begin fathers day weekend in mid June. The season ends Labor Day weekend, with limited weekend shifts throughout September.
Q: Is there a difference in the swim test for beach and pool positions?
A: Yes, for the beach the swim test is 500 meters (550 yards) in 10 minutes. For pool lifeguards the swim test is 300 yards with no time limit, but must be continuous. There are multiple opportunities to pass at the Rock Sports Club pool in Tinton Falls. We also host free swim clinics to help those looking to improve their swimming abilities before swim tryouts. Learn more about upcoming swim clinics and tryouts on our Events Page.
Q: Do I need lifeguarding experience or certifications?
A: No, we host all required certifications and lifeguard training you’ll need.
Q: How do I apply?
A: Submit the digital application above this Q@A section, that’s it! In the application you’ll choose your summer availability, set a tryout date, etc. Summer is coming, join us!
