Welcome to the A.L.A. Rookie Ocean Rescue Training Program

A.L.A. Academy

Congratulations on beginning your journey as a professional ocean rescue lifeguard. This 5-day training program will prepare you to meet the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) standards and become an essential part of our ocean rescue team.

Tonight’s orientation is the first step in that journey.

📝 What to Expect During Tonight’s Session

During this virtual meeting, we’ll cover the following:

  • ✅ Course Overview

    • Breakdown of the training schedule

    • Goals and USLA compliance

    • What to expect at Rock Sports Club

  • 📘 How to Access the Lifeguard Training Manual

    • Digital version provided

    • How to bookmark and reference it throughout training

  • 📄 Daily Homework Assignments

    • Light reading and self-prep exercises

    • Not collected, but critical for in-person success

    • Helps reinforce concepts like victim recognition, currents, equipment, and rescue methods

  • 🧠 Final Assessment Preparation

    • Brief overview of the in-person written exam on the final day

    • What topics will be covered

    • How to prepare throughout the week

📚 Materials You’ll Need

To get the most out of tonight’s session, please have the following ready:

  • A device with Google Meet access

  • A notebook or digital notes app

  • Your full attention, this sets the tone for the rest of the course!

🧭 After Tonight: What Happens Next

You’ll report in person to Rock Sports Club on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, June 10: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM

  • Wednesday, June 11: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM

  • Thursday, June 12: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM

  • Friday, June 13: 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM

    (Be ready to head to Porta for dinner afterward on Friday to celebrate with the crew!)

⚠️ Attendance Is Mandatory

These sessions count toward your 40-hour USLA training requirement. If you’re unable to attend any portion of this course, you must notify the instructor in advance and schedule a makeup. If no makeup is available, employment may be postponed.
