American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course

Get certified. Be ready. Save lives.

This comprehensive course is designed to prepare individuals with the skills and confidence needed to work as a professional lifeguard. Through hands-on training in water rescue, CPR, AED, and First Aid, students will learn to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies.

Course Includes (valid for 2 years):

  • Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification

  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer

  • First Aid & AED Certification

  • Blood-Borne Pathogens

Course Cost:

Please mail check to the Atlantic Lifeguard Alliance primary office, (5 Berkeley Pl, Eatontown, NJ 07724). Payment must be received prior to first day of in-person class.

Who Can Sign Up:

  • Ages 15 and up – You must be at least 15 years old by the final day of the course.

Pre-Course Test Requirements:

To participate in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) course, candidates must successfully complete the following swimming skills evaluation on the first day of in-person class:

Prerequisite 1: Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence (without stopping to rest)

  1. Jump into the water and fully submerge, then resurface and swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed.

  2. Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs. Hands should be placed under the armpits.

  3. Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.

Prerequisite 2: Timed Event (within 1 minute, 40 seconds)

  1. Start in the water and swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.

  2. Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7–10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.

  3. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.

  4. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

ONline Pre-Course Work

  • Access the online portion of the course via a link sent to your email within 24hrs of registration. This must be completed before the first in-person session.

COURSE COMPLETION CERTIFICATE

  • After successfully completing the course, your certificate will be emailed to you within 48hrs of the course completion.
